I don't know about you, but my lips get horribly chapped during the winter. Every time I tried to put any kind of color on my lips it would peal and just look horrible. My typical go to lip balm, Soft Lips, was not doing the job. I knew I wanted to get something, and then I saw a commercial for this, Vasaline Lip Therapy. It lasts so much longer than any chapstick I've ever used, and completely softened my lips in a matter of days! I put it on in the morning before doing my makeup, so by the time I get to my lips they are moisturized and ready.

Look of the Day: 1/25/11
NOTE: please excuse my eyebrows. Thanks =)
Anyhow... here it is, my back to school look! This is very simple. The lid color is a mixture of a cool brown and gray, applied with a big, fluffy brush. The inner corner is a mixture of MAC's rice paper and vex. The crease is a slight bit of a dark maroon applied with a fluffy crease brush. Lastly, I used a cream color to highlight my brow and a small bit of rice paper at the highest point under my brow.
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with going a little glam for school. Cool colors are a great way to do this without looking like you forgot to take your makeup off from the night before. A look like this can be amped up with winged out liquid liner or super smokey pencil. It can also be played down with no liner or a thin line of black or dark brown shadow along the top lashes. Simple changes can make a look so versatile.
I hope everyone had a great first day or two and an even better semester!

Look of the Day: 1/24l/11
I was inspired to do this look after seeing this youtube video:
Of course, I don't have all the same shadows, brushes, or eye shape, so my look came out fairly different. However, I used the same techniques and I am very pleased with the outcome. As she said in the video, this is a great look for blue eyes. The red undertones of copper really make my eyes pop. This look is very sultry, but subtle enough to be a day time look depending on how how much makeup you like wearing at different times of day.
I also added black pencil liner to my top lash line, but smudged it out with the medium brown tone. I usually don't like my eyes without liner. It makes them look unfinished to me.
ENJOY! =)

Look of the Day: 1/21/11
I love doing a smokey eyes with very little black. Today I used dark greens from my Tarte Jewelery Box Palette, then darkened up the crease with a small amount of a charcoal black. I lined my eyes with Tarte's maroon pencil liner, then set it with a sparkly purple from the same palette. The pictures don't do this look justice. The shadow color is much more green and makes my eyes a gray/green/teal.

Look of the Day: 1/18/11
This look was inspired by the following video:
Nikkietutorials on youtube is one of my very favorites. Not only is she very educational in regards to makeup, but she is so entertaining as well!
I used Nikkie's crease technique using cork, then varied up the lid by applying a mixture of wood-winked, satin taupe, and cork. The very inner eye highlight is rice paper. To make this area pop, I used a soft pencil brush and brought it up to meet with the crease. This technique creates such a cool effect and illusion to the face. By bringing the crease to the bridge of your nose you are slenderizing your nose, while the inner highlight brightens and enlarges your eye. This look does not have a brow highlight in order to not take away from the previously mentioned.
I also learned a new trick from xsparkage on how to keep your waterline liner all day in this video:
ps. I'm not naked! I swear! =)

Look of the Day: 1/16/11
Recently I've really been trying to perfect the cut crease look. Slowly, but surely, I'm getting there. I really like how these colors made my eyes look almost green in a way, which was so much more apparent in person. The crease was mostly plumage, a looooooot of plumage, and a small amount of a brighter shimmery green from clinique. The lid color is a mixture of a bright, shimmery, iridescent pink from MAC, star violet, and cranberry. To make the look more dramatic, but still soft, I applied a black pencil to my water line, tight line, and very thinly along my upper lash line. Then of course lots and lots of mascara. I kept my cheeks and lips fairly neutral, with only a slight pop of pink on my cheeks, and VOILA!
Tip of the day: keep your cheek color further up, closer to your temples, for a more youthful look. It's like a mini face lift and putting too much color on the apples of your cheeks will age you.

Look of the Day: 1/13/11
Not only do you get one look today...

but you get TWO!
Today has been a lazy day, but when I get bored, this is what happens.
The first look is a cranberry inspired look. A simple smokey eye using shimmery maroon colors and brown gel liner. Some Carbon from MAC was also used to darken up the crease.
Second is a funky neutral look. By using such basic colors in a more edgy style makes an everyday look a little more fun. The photo doesn't show it very well, but this look is actually a cut crease using Satin Taupe in the crease and Vex on the lid. The brown gel liner is brought up along the shadow, then blended out to create a soft gradient and dimension to the look.
Whenever you have some free time in your day, experiment with your makeup. Try different color combinations and techniques. You never know what you may come up with!
